A community to help you thrive

Freelance Editors Club

Join a supportive group of freelance editors and make friends while building a business you love.

There are so many perks to being a freelancer: you get to work from home, there’s no traffic or commuting, no authoritative boss breathing down your neck, you set your own schedule and only report to…you. Win! But what’s glorified in our culture is often overlooked for its missteps.

“I did it all on my own,” said no thriving freelance editor, ever.

It’s common to feel isolated or lonely, unsure of how to get clients or make connections, feeling excluded from the sometimes secretive world of editing, and feeling like you’re struggling to get your business off the ground.

This is why I created the Freelance Editors Club—because it takes a village to navigate the world of building your own business.

You deserve to feel seen, supported, respected, included, and successful as a freelance business owner, and having a consistent support system will give you the knowledge, resources, courage, and confidence to achieve the business of your dreams. Because let’s face it, there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach to freelance editing.

“Club” may sound exclusive, so let me introduce you to our definition: a fun and diverse community of trans women, cis women, and nonbinary editors who seek collaborative support.

Whether you’re just starting out as a freelance editor, or you could use some guidance and a community that’s got your back, this club will help you develop a business you love, built your own way.

Dive into our regular meetings, a six-step framework to build your business, over three years’ worth of trainings and calls, a supportive and friendly network of editors on the same path as you, and sooooo much more. And bring your personality and quirks, because we have a lot of fun together!

You deserve to be successful working at your own pace, to have a whole lot more fun as a freelancer, and to feel supported and not so alone (hello, new friends and peers cheering you on!).

This club has been a game changer for me. I feel more engaged in my industry, I don’t feel as alone, and the education that Tara provides is amazing. I highly recommend checking it out!

Hi! I’m Tara (she/her).

When I started my freelance editing journey more than a decade ago, it didn’t take me long to realize I was on a not-so-clear and lonely trajectory. I had no idea who to turn to, where to go, or what path to follow in the world of editing. I also felt like there was a lot of gate-keeping and superiority going on: white women not wanting to share information or include those with different backgrounds than them. Eff. That.

So after a looong time in the editing world (I’ve edited 200+ books as of October 2022), I decided it was time to share what I learned with the wider community of editors who needed help starting out (like I wish I had); who had different backgrounds, upbringings, and identities than what was represented; and those who needed a little personalized motivation and some encouraging words (I’m all for both!).

And by the way, I didn’t major in English (I earned a marketing degree with a minor in special event planning), and I don’t hold an editing certificate. No matter your background, if you have the determination, passion for work, a supportive community, and a natural inclination for badassery, then you can do this!

Now, for your questions:

There is a 14-day free trial for the Freelance Editors Club! No credit card info is required. If you decide to stay, the membership fee is $57/month or $570/year (17% savings) to join.

The club is 100% online. From the moment you sign up, you’ll receive immediate access to the membership website. Here, you’ll find the business framework, private community access, past trainings and calls, Q&A call info, and monthly educational content. Plus, an incredible new community!

You’ll receive a welcome email within 5-10 minutes of your purchase. Then you can log in and get immediate access to all the fun!

You can stay in the club as long as you’d like. You’ll receive new educational content monthly, so the longer you stay in the club, the more content you’ll have access to! You’ll also be able to meet more community members and deepen relationships.

When you’re ready to leave the club, simply cancel right inside the membership site.

Let me make it simple.

This club is for you if: you’re a trans woman, cis woman, or nonbinary person looking to improve your skills and knowledge in the editing world; you want to manage imposter syndrome and gain confidence in your business; you’re ready to work hard and put in the effort; you’re willing to give as much as you receive; you’re longing to be in an inclusive space of people; and you want to meet like-minded editors on similar journeys.

This club is NOT for you if: you like to make excuses for yourself, you know it all, you’re closed off to feedback from others, you find fault in everything, you’re unwilling to help others along their journeys, or you’re not open to a diverse group.

I’m located in the US in the Central Time Zone, so most of our calls occur between 9am – 3pm CST. I also host some calls at 7pm CST. If you’re unable to attend live, all sessions are recorded and available within 48 hours.

Absolutely! I provide subtitles, recordings, and transcripts for all of our calls. No one is required to speak or be on camera at any time. If there is anything offered in the club that doesn’t meet your access needs, please let me know and I will address immediately.

When you’re in the space she provides, you truly feel the nonjudgemental, compassionate space where you can freely be who you are. We can safely talk about grievances with clients and ask about how to continue to thrive in our businesses. She will never tell us not to do something or ‘this is how it’s done.’ We’re all different, and she’s all about celebrating the uniqueness of every person that comes to the table.
