I can talk for days about how staying organized can benefit so many aspects of your health and life, but today I want to talk about one thing in particular: how to declutter your desk.

Whether you work in a cubicle, an office, or from home, your workspace sets the tone for your productivity.

Did you know that the average person spends three hours a week looking for items that are all within arm’s reach?

Crazy, right? The things we need most are right there but oftentimes either buried in clutter or in a spot that doesn’t make sense. Think of what you could do with those three hours instead of wasting them hunting for stuff.

You could:

  • Read a book
  • Watch nine(ish) episodes of The Office
  • Do six 30-minute workouts
  • Go out to dinner with your family 2-3 times

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather do any of the above than hunt for my planner or the sticky note I can’t find beneath all the piles 🙄

So how can you reclaim those three hours back? By taking small, actionable steps toward your goal.

Set aside 10-15 minutes today and declutter your desk.

  • Get rid of all the old coffee mugs, snack wrappers, extra pens, sticky notes, and piles of paper.
  • Tidy up any mementos or items that can get out of place (like candles or picture frames).
  • And since it’s always a good idea to stay healthy, disinfect and wipe off all surfaces.

If you don’t have time today to go through any papers, set them aside in a neat pile and promise yourself to tackle them during another 15-minute organizing session. (The key here is to actually tackle them in the near future!)

You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish in only 15 minutes. Organizing does not have to take huge chunks of time to see real results. I promise!

Happy organizing!
